The Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras is currently in a meeting with Angel Gurria, general secretary of the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD).

On his way into Mr. Tsipras’ office, Mr. Gurria commented that he is in favor of taxes going towards growth and tackling the debt problem via growth. The PM greeted Mr. Gurria by telling him that he was one of the most important people in Europe, because he speaks of growth.

The government is looking forward to technical assistance from the OECD in order to prepare a series of reforms that will convince Greece’s creditors of its intentions. In preparation of today’s meeting, Mr. Gurria met with Finance Minister Yanis Varoufakis on Tuesday.

Mr. Gurria may refer to his own experiences in debt renegotiations, as during his tenure as Finance Minister in Mexico, his country’s public debt was significantly reduced.
