The former deputy director of armament Antonis Kantas has been detained until his trial. Mr. Kantas is expected to continue his plea on Thursday. Aside from agreeing to return the sum of 16 million dollars that were found in three of his bank accounts, Mr. Kantas has also handed over to the investigative authorities a file with details on the bribes.

On Wednesday he was questioned about his tenure at the Ministry of National Defense between 1997 and 2002, when he was finally removed from his post by then Minister Yannos Papantoniou (who, coincidently, is also being investigated in an unrelated trial over financial discrepancies).

In his eight-hour plea, Mr. Kantas revealed the names of seven businessmen who bribed him and even indicated a number of bank accounts that the authorities may investigate to discover more people implicated in the armament scandal.
