Εnvironmental NGO “Arcturos”, which was established forthe protection of brown bears and their habits in Greece, has decided to return a controversial 5,000 euro donation from Golden Dawn, accepting that they made a “mistake” in accepting the funds.
The NGO explains that “after the reactions and discussions prompted by the donation from the Golden Dawn party, the organization recognizes that accepting it was a mistake and for that reason rejects the donation and is returning the money”.
“Arcturos” recently launched an appeal in an effort to secure funding to carry own operating. As explained in their press release, the NGO has relied on donations for the past 11 years and the efforts from volunteers and citizen support groups.
The NGO asserts that it has never been associated with government policies, nor has it collected any government subsidies or other support. The announcement concludes that “no financial need […] can be covered by actions that cause greater problems and confusion in society, especially in times of crisis”.
