The parliamentary spokesman for New Democracy Kyriakos Mitsotakis has penned an article for the Financial Times, where he stresses that the majority of Greek people expect that the Prime Minister comes to an agreement with the country’s creditors.

Mr. Mitsotakis estimates that a “fair deal”, which would allow Greece to remain in the Eurozone and do everything necessary to salvage its economy, is still possible. He added that all involved parties would have to act responsibly.

In his article, he urged Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras to do what is right for Greece, even if it means coming to blows with the populist practices and clientelism that brought him to power. He then states that the creditors must recognize the hardship experienced in Greece over the past five years.

According to the New Democracy MP, the abolition of the client state is a necessary condition in order to achieve fiscal sustainability. He also argued that there was still room for reforms and expense cuts that could save billions of euros, rather than resort to raising taxes.
