The president of the Movement of Democrats Socialists and former Prime Minister Giorgos Papandreou has proposed a referendum regarding a possible compromise with the country’s creditors.

Furthermore, Mr. Papandreou claimed that German taxpayers would be reassured, if the Greek people voted positively to such a referendum. Regarding his own controversial referendum proposal, the former Prime Minister explained that German Chancellor Angela Merkel was not opposed to his proposal but avoided publicly support such a referendum.
