The former Prime Minister and president of PASOK Giorgos Papandreou has accused New Democracy of catastrophic fiscal management and maintaining clientelism, which resulted in Greece having to apply for a bailout.
Mr. Papandreou made the accusations at the Symi Symposium which is being held in Spetses. In his speech Mr. Papandreou noted that in order to truly exit the crisis, Greece must first exit the clientelism.
The former PM also took the opportunity to criticize the dominant pro-austerity camp in the EU and argued that fiscal discipline and austerity are the solution to the crisis when little has been done to promote the financial and political union between EU member states.
Additionally Mr. Papandreou defended his proposal for a referendum, insisting that the active participation of the people in established procedures are paramount in a representative democracy.
