The unemployment office OAED published detailed data regarding the support provided to the unemployed, highlighting the difficulties in supporting them. Of the 1,062,509 who have registered with OAED, only 174,178 (16.4%) received the unemployment benefit in January.

According to OAED there were 853,659 unemployed people actively seeking a job, of whom 423,025 (49.5%) had been out of a job for over a year. As evident by the registration numbers, unemployment affects women (58.44%) harder than men (41.56%).

The data showed that the 30-54 age group with 537,199 registrations had the highest rate of unemployment (62.86%), followed by the under 30s (217,133 registrations – 25.41%) and the over 55s (100,327 – 11.74%).

Furthermore, the OAED data reveals that 796,480 (93.19%) Greeks were registered with OAED in January, compared to the 14,047 (1.64%) from the EU and 44,132 (5.16%) from third countries.

As for education, 11,653 (1.36%) of registered unemployed have not had any formal education, 292,698 (34.25%) completed basic education, 414,865 (48.54%) completed secondary education and 135,443 completed university studies (15.85%).
