The federation of university administrative staff has announced that it will extend its strike for a further five days to the 18th of October. The nearly two-month long strike has resulted in the country’s largest universities being unable to operate.
Meanwhile, the Ministry of Education will announce the website address were university administrative staff must register for evaluation. Those who do not register within five days of the announcement will be suspended and the Ministry believes that the universities will resume their regular operation next week.
The administrative staff federation however has warned that nobody will register on the Ministry’s website and announced a protest rally outside the Ministry of Education on the 16th of October.
Representatives from the University Rector Synod will travel to Brussels where on Thursday the 17th of October they will present the detrimental impact of the government’s suspension plans on higher education and the operation of universities.
The Synod representatives will also participated in a relevant event on the crisis, organized by the MEP of Green Party Nikos Chrysogelos. The co-president of the Greens – European Free Alliance group Rebecca Harms as well as academics, artists and intellectuals from Belgium, Spain and Portugal have been invited to participate.
