A cafeteria and EOPYY offices on the corners of Zisimopoulou and Lazaraki in Glyfada were claimed by a huge fire that broke out just after 5am on Wednesday. The damages caused to surrounding buildings are significant, however no lives were at risk.

According to preliminary reports, cleaners who were working in the cafeteria at the time said that an armed group of four men suddenly stormed in and ordered them to leave the cafeteria immediately, before dousing the cafeteria in a flammable liquid and setting a fire.

The Fire Brigade rushed 9 vehicles with 27 firefighters to the scene and managed to get the fire under its control, but not before the fire ravaged the cafeteria and spread to other floors, causing damages. The offices of national healthcare provider EOPYY, also in the building, were destroyed in the fire. The EOPYY management is in talks with the Municipality of Glyfada about moving to another building.

The investigation of the case is being handled by the Extortion department of the Police.
