The Supreme Court has ratified its appeal decision that obligates the Municipality of Ilioupoli to pay each of five citizens the sum of 4,000 euros, in compensation for the injuries and damages caused by a fallen tree/

In their decision, the judges explained that the municipality is wholly responsible for “the construction, maintenance and operation of green outdoor and common use areas and the trees that are within those bounded areas”.

The responsibility also involves municipal agencies taking the appropriate preventative measures and checks of large tree. Should there be danger of a tree falling, the municipality must take necessary precautions and cut down the tree, to avoid injuries and damages.
