The Deputy Minister of Finances G. Mavraganis spoke to Vim 99.5 on Tuesday morning, giving his insight on the income deviations for January. Mr. Mavraganis explained that the deviations are circumstantial.
The Minister stated that the government understands that many tax-payers have difficulty paying their taxes and for that reason negotiations with the General Secretary of Tax Revenue H. Theoharis are under way, to find a way to ease the situation. He refused to comment on rumors of a 50,000 euro tax-free threshold.
Regarding the unified land tax, the Deputy Minister repeated the government line that the intention is to have the smallest possible burden by expanding the tax base. Mr. Mavraganis revealed that that the government is heading towards an expanded and progressive tax.
