The head of the Commission Task Force in Athens Horst Reichenbach was negative towards discussing possible changes to the support package for the Greek economy, in light of IMF and EU officials admitting that the program was based on erroneous calculations.
Following a meeting with Minister of Macedonia – Thrace Theodoros Karaoglou, Mr. Reichenbach claimed that “since Greece has managed to overcome the hardest phase of this particular program, I don’t see why, especially on behalf of the Task Force, the discussion would be brought up again”.
Mr. Reichenbach added that he is not qualified to comment on the issue and that the Task Force is “here to support Greece and promote the reforms Greece needs to implement”. The Task Force head spoke positively about the Greek government commenting on “the very hard work to improve the financial climate and the steady application of reforms”.
Mr. Karaoglou informed Mr. Reichenbach of matters relating to growth in Northern Greece and presented the projects currently under way. Mr. Reichenbach was interested in the delays and problems of the Thessaloniki Metro, the “Macedonia” airport, the Thessaloniki Water and Sewage Company and the prospects of developing touring in Northern Greece.
