Former PASOK ministers Anna Diamantopoulou and Giorgos Floridis have published a statement entitled “Half truths and the real danger” in response to the Presidential election.

In their mutual statement the two political divs support the creation of a “democratic reform pole” in order to safeguard Greece’s European acquis and to avoid further divisive polarization and opportunism. This pole would act as a catalyst in the necessary reform of the Greek political system.

The two former Ministers stress that Greece’s main problem following the restoration of Democracy in 1974 has been the inability of implement an internal reform. They also express their dismay at the fact that “after five years of the crisis clientelist, parasitic and Statist structures remain untouched”.

Additionally, they accuse the main opposition party SYRIZA of acting irresponsibly and for being “the extreme continuer of the bankrupt aspect of the Restoration of Democracy”.
