The Ministry of the Environment as announced its plan to invest 15 million euros in for the creation of “green rooftops” on public buildings such as schools, nurseries, libraries and culture centers.

The purpose of the plan is to save energy during the summer and winter, to improve the heating and environmental conditions in public buildings and to improve the microclimate in the area around the buildings. Reducing atmospheric pollution and reversing climate change are long-term goals of the plan.

The Deputy Minister of the Environment Stavros Kalafatis explained that “the improvement of the living conditions of the people is the Ministry’s main priority” and added that “the creation of green rooftops at schools and public buildings will save energy, increase the presence of green in urban settings and reduce greenhouse gas emissions”.
