The forest fire that broke out on Sunday evening in the Zoodochou Pigis region in Samos is subsiding. Despite the strong winds in the evening, fire brigade was able restrict the fire late at night.

About 20 fire fighters are on the scene, with the support of 7 vehicles, 60 volunteers, an aircraft and other municipal services. Two illegal immigrants who were found in the area have been arrested as suspects, having possibly set a fire to keep warm.

The Civil Protection services has issued a warning of increased possibility of forest fires in Attica, islands in the North Aegean (particularly Lesvos, Chios, Samos and Ikaria), Lasithi and Heraklion in Crete, the Cycladic islands and South Evia.
