The Government Vice President Evangelos Venizelos praised the efforts and contribution of the outgoing Governor of the Greek central bank Giorgos Provopoulos, after an early morning meeting with him.
Mr. Venizelos noted that “an immensely important historic cycle came to an end” with Mr. Provopoulos’ departure from the Bank of Greece, since as his tenure coincided with the financial crisis.
Additionally, he stressed that “Mr. Provopoulos’ contribution to the salvation of the Greek economy, the salvation of the Greek people’s bank accounts and the salvation of the ability of Greek businesses to borrow, grow, invest and create new jobs is immense”.
The VP added that the country must carry on the same path in order to succeed in overcoming the crisis once and for all.
On his behalf, Mr. Provopoulos commented that the country has taken significant steps and “today it is entirely different, exuding the optimism that we can escape this rut, move ahead and look forward to a better future”.
