The leader of the opposition and SYRIZA Alexis Tsipras gave a televised interview on Tuesday where he explained that although his party’s commitment to abolish the bailout deals “with one law and one article”; it would take far longer, since the bailout is a “network of 400 laws”.

While Tsipras was confident that his party would prevail in an election stand off with the government, he was more reserved in his estimations and noted that the goal is to come first in the upcoming European election “even by just one vote”. The opposition leader also repeated his belief that the Greece’s return to the markets has been set up by the coalition government in order to support the “Greek success story” propaganda.

Regarding taxes, Mr. Tsipras promised to increase the tax-free threshold to 12,000 euros and reduce the VAT in essential goods from 23% to 10%, however he avoided addressing solidarity contributions and the non-payment of interest.

According to the SYRIZA leader’s plans, the banks will be under public control, in order to intervene in the real economy when needed and revealed that all red loans would be transferred to a “bad” state bank that will explicitly be setup to deal with them.

Mr. Tsipras also addressed the scandal with the coalition government’s former general secretary Baltakos and claimed that the Samaras administration has direct line of communication with Golden Dawn. Mr. Tsipras stated that the scandal reveals the “eclectic relations” between the government and Golden Dawn and accused the Prime Minister of opportunism, claiming the government turned against the neo-Nazi party to deprive votes from SYRIZA.
