Leases to be submitted electronically as of February

The Ministry of Finances’ General Secretariat of Information Systems is to launch its new Electronic Lease Submission system in February. The landlord will be able to submit the lease via computer and the tenant will automatically be updated with a copy.

Until now, all leases with a rent higher than 100 euros per month have to be submitted by the landlord or tenant at a tax office for inspection, within 30 days of it being signed.

The agreement was include full ID and tax details of the landlord and tenant. Two copies are submitted, with one being returned to the person who submitted it and the other remains with the tax office, or transferred to the landlord’s tax office.

If a lease is not approved by the head of the tax office, it is denied probative value and cannot be taken into consideration by courts. This also applies to amended leases.
