The MEP candidate for SYRIZA Ilias Nikolopoulos gave an interview to Vima 99.5 FM to address PASOK’s “charges” of being Golden Dawn’s constitutionalist.
In the interview Mr. Nikolopoulos explained that there are no provisions in the Constitution to ban any political party, irrespective of ideology, if they have received the necessary legal permit, which entails a respect for parliamentary democracy.
Additionally, Mr. Nikolopoulos explained that Golden Dawn’s detained MPs should have been allowed to participate in the voting process in Parliament, arguing that they may lose their seat in Parliament if they are convicted of the felony charges they currently face.
Mr. Nikolopoulos denied having any contact with any Golden Dawn members or supporters and challenged PASOK to dispute his legal claims regarding Golden Dawn, by referencing PASOK leader Evangelos Venizelos’ work in the field as a constitutional expert.
