According to an unnamed Ministry of Finances officer “there are still issues that could block the deal”, following an 11-hour marathon meeting with the troika at the Ministry on Saturday.
With the troika scheduled to depart on Monday, the officer believed that discussions could continue over teleconferences, without discounting the possibility of the troika returning to Athens sooner.
The Minister of Finances Yannis Stournaras will likely have to head to the European Parliament in Brussels on Monday, as it appears that a deal for the banking union will be achieved.
In the meantime, the Vice-President of the European Commission Joaquin Almunia has requested from the coalition government to uphold the law on state subsidies regarding the banks.
The troika and the Minister of Finances have arranged a new meeting for Sunday, which is scheduled to begin at 10am.
