Foreign Minister Nikos Kotzias was sent a terror letter containing threats about being targeted with three bullets, which were related to the ongoing naming talks with the Former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia.
The receipt of the terror envelope was revealed by Citizen’s Protection (public order) Minister Nikso Toskas, who said the bullets were accompanied by death threats against Kotzias and his family.
“Foreign Minister Nikos Kotzias received a letter with threats about bullets for him and his family. It goes without saying how dangerous it is for one to send such letters just because one does not approve of the manner of negotiation. We are searching for information about those who sent the letter,” Toskas said.
“ The competent police authorities have already been assigned the case, so that we can ascertain who is trying to dynamite even the climate of a peaceful demonstration.”
Fears about demonstration
Toskas said that he has ordered police to take all the necessary measures [for Sunday protest against FYROM using the name Macedonia] to ensure the greatest possible calm at the demonstration. I hope that the organisers will take measures to isolate far-right elements,” the minister said.
Asked about FYROM related threats from the anti-authority Rubicon group, Toskas said that, “An effort is being made after 25 years of stagnation to solve a problem. The foreign ministry is conducting the talks based on directions from the prime minister, and the predominant climate is not determined by extremists, on one side or the other, or by letters.»
