Two earthquakes shook Athens and Mainland Greece just after noon today, at 12:02 and 12:06. The Geodynamic Institute of the National Observatory in Athens and the Geophysics Lab at the Aristotelian University of Thessaloniki measured the main earthquake’s magnitude at 5.1 on the Richter scale, with an epicenter 28 kilometers west of Atalanti and 121 kilometers north of Athens. A 4.2 earthquake occurred moments earlier in the same spot.

The European Mediterranean Seismological Center reported that the earthquake measured 5.1 on the Richter scale and at a depth of 10 kilometers. The earthquake occurred about 120 kilometers northwest of Athens and 30 kilometers southeast of Lamia.

Mr. Ganas of the Geodynamic Institute spoke to VIMA FM 99.5 and commented that such seismic activity was not out of the ordinary and that there is no reason to worry.
