The Police’s Subdirectory of Internal Affairs of Northern Greece announced the arrest of a 40-year-old police sergeant serving in Kastoria on narcotics and weapons charges.

According to the police, the officer was arrested on Tuesday afternoon as he was driving a car with a trailer, where 113 packets of marijuana – weighing 124 kilos and 228 grams – were located.

Upon later inspection at the 40-year-old’s home, the police recovered two Kalashnikov assault rifles with ammunition, a bayonet, a sword, a hunting knife and cash.

The investigation also lead the police to the arrest of a 47-year-old scrap-yard owner, who was found to be in possession of a 10 hand grenades, one Kalashnikov assault rifle and ammunition, 54 detonators and a mobile phone.

The two men will face criminal charges for narcotics and weapons charges, with the officer being suspended from his duties.
