Every week, the government pundits come up with a new solution that is meant to solve the pension system problem. Up until a few days ago the magical solution was raising insurance contributions. When the troika started began objecting, they pulled another ace from their sleeve… taxing bank transactions to cover at least part of the necessary funding.

Without any planning, examining the impact or considering the broader affects of such a tax. In Greece the easy solution to every problem is imposing a new tax. That fact that the economy, businesses and the people are buckling under pressure from the overtaxation does not seem to concern any government officers…

The most productive section of the economy, which is trying to survive in extremely difficult conditions, within the recession and uncertainty, is considered by the government to be a golden goose that will provide everything necessary to cover any shortfalls. They are draining the goose dry though and are indifferent of it will make it in the end, just like with hundreds of other businesses so far.

Rather than help businesses that are still struggling to survive and grown, in order to create some new jobs, they add more taxes. Only this policy will not provide a solution to the pension system problem, nor an exit from the recession. It will merely bolster the black economy, force businesses to leave, leading many to unemployment, while public finances enter a new vicious circle of cuts and taxes….

There are obviously no easy solutions. However the patchwork and tax raids lead nowhere. If there is not comprehensive national plan for the recovery of the economy, without obsessions and delusions, then no tax or cut will help us out of this mess…
