Enough with the personal strategies and pursuits of SYRIZA’s ministers and officers. At a time when we literally do not know what the next day harbors for us, with the negotiation in an extremely critical stage that will determine whether we reach an agreement or nor, some are demonstrating on a daily basis that they only thing that concerns them and for which they care about is their personal image.
On the one hand the Minister of Finances Mr. Varoufakis, after a necessary ‘detox’ break, has made a fierce comeback, dropping time bombs on a daily basis. While he knows – or at least should know – that you do not open up new fronts with your interlocutors when you are negotiating – in fact you do the exact opposite. With direct or allusive references that will unavoidably get blown up in the media, he does all that he cans to provoke and create a climate of conflict with the Finance Ministers of the Eurozone. At every opportunity Mr. Varoufakis is targeting the very ones who are supposed to contribute towards the resolution of the negotiation with their political decision.
On the other hand the President of Parliament is acting as an independent power center, ignoring government lines and institutional roles. Yesterday’s farce with the police director and Mrs. Konstantopoulou playing the role of the supervisor and deciding upon security measure and whether or not the streets should close for a demonstration is a typical example. Let us not forget her numerous pointless interventions, beyond her role and government choices, such as the operatic commission for the debt.
Aside from them though there are many more SYRIZA ministers and officers who parade on the television panels every day to express their opinion on the negotiation. It is clear that this political Babel – which not only fails to contribute anything, but also causes problems – cannot carry on much longer. If the Prime Minister truly wants to put an end to the uncertainty, as he claims, in order to come to agreement with our partners, he must put some order, if not in his party, then at least his government, which has the responsibility of managing the problems of the country and people.
