Beyond the very critical negotiations with our European partners, there are the real problems of the economy and society which need to be addressed immediately. The government, however, rather than prioritize it immediate goals – whether because there is a lack of coordination or because certain ministers are rushing to demonstrated their reforms, the way they understand them – it tackles issues that cause more tension and problems than what it is trying to solve.

From a lack of consultation and coordination there was suddenly a serious issue with migration policy, which caused untimely and pointless conflicts. It was a similar case with the salary increases at DEI, as well as the investment at Skouries in Halkidiki, which further split the local community as thousands of employees see that their jobs are at risk. Let us not even consider the initiatives of the Ministry of Education, which is causes chain reactions and major upheaval in the education process and planning of thousands of families, almost on a daily basis.

As understandable as the haste of certain government officials might be to demonstrate that their efforts, it just as inconceivable how obsessed they are about canceling laws and decisions of previous government, without balancing the consequences and impact they may have. The country truly needs changes and brave reforms, under the condition that they have an effect and contribute in a meaningful way in addressing the problems that plague us. No citizen expects to see the decades-old wrongs change from one day to the next.

The government officials ought to realize that haste and quite often thoughtlessness are not the best advisor. The changes and reversals require a plan, discussion and social acceptance in order to be welcome and successful. The quicker the government realizes this, the better for the country and their efficiency.
