All indications suggest that, by Friday evening, it will greatly be determined if and how the government will create a new relationship with Europe. At tomorrow’s Eurogroup and Summit it will become clear under what conditions and terms it will be possible to achieve a mutually-beneficial agreement, as Mr. Varoufakis claims.

The government staff appears optimistic that with its generous reforms it will be able to curb the reactions of our European partners to the bridging program that we are after. It is a given that the negotiation will be neither simple nor easy. While our partners state that they want Greece to remain within the Eurozone, they set a series of conditions at the same time, the main one being the implementation of the agreements, which conflicts with the government’s declared intentions.

The ongoing negotiations ahead of tomorrow’s Eurogroup seem to create a climate of understanding and compromise. However, nothing is granter yet, as the hegemonic forces in Europe are not prepared to abandon their politics. The government ought to attend the negotiations with a thought-out plan, with arguments and the necessary flexibility in order to achieve the best possible solution for the country.

Europe has proven time and again that even under critical conditions, even if it takes some time, it will find the solutions that will Europe to move forward. Now, with mutual concessions, it has the opportunity and ability to give Greece the chance, which is asking for some breathing space. A mutually acceptable solution, without winners and losers, would be a step forward for everyone.
