The Ministry of Interior has approved a temporary emergency recruitment drive so that municipalities can cover seasonal and temporary needs in 2014. The Ministry took the decision since all recruitments will be put on hold in the lead up to the local elections later in the year.
As explained in the memo distributed amongst the relevant local government bodies, these recruitments will be specifically to cover seasonal and temporary needs and to complete specific projects. The municipalities must then inform the Ministry of their needs, whilst taking into consideration the budget cuts.
Furthermore, the Ministry of Interior is also urging local bodies to take advantage of European programs and funding available to them. Additionally the Ministry explained that the contracts for new recruitments must be for a limited time, rather than for the completion of a project, as the former cannot be extended or renewed.
Additionally the Ministry of Interior clarified that municipal requests for physical education teachers and school cleaning staff must be addressed to the Ministry of Education.
