Ministry of Finances to reduce VAT fines by up to 50%

According to a report by Ta Nea, the Ministry of Finances appears to be preparing a legislative amendment aiming to reduce a number of fines related to VAT by up to 50%.

The Ministry of Finances wants to drastically reduce the fine for first-time offenders by up to 50%. The fine will be doubled after an audit has revealed whether the taxpayer has re-offended within a five year period. If an inspection shows that the taxpayer re-offends for a second time, the fine will be quadrupled.

Amongst other provisions in the rumored amendment is to set a 1,000-euro cap per each receipt not issued as obliged, as well as imposing additional fines on existing ones.
