Administrative employees will decide whether universities reopen

After the Ministry of Education revised its dismissal and suspension plans, the administrative employees at the University of Athens are rumored to vote in favor of reopening the institution at their 11am general assembly. The University’s management and Senate members explained that the revised proposal offered greater protection for the vast majority of current and former employees.

Furthermore, the Ministry of Education has decided to draft a regulation so that a semester is technically complete when most of the teaching has taken place. A number of administrative employees are going to form a committee to participate in the discussions with the Ministry of Education. At noon today the Minister Konstantinos Arvanitopoulos is scheduled to meet with representatives of the Rector Synod, in order to discuss their proposals.

Despite the optimism with the University of Athens, the administrative employees at the National Technical University of Athens lean towards rejecting the Ministry’s revised plan. The Federation president claimed that the Ministry’s proposal is “pointless” and “aims to separate university employees”. The federation representatives will exchange ideas before deciding upon a continuation of their strike.
