Tragedy struck near Kalavryta over the weekend, after a 9-year-old boy fell to his death in the Vouraikos Canyon.
The boy had been hiking in a group with eight other people – including his parents and two other children – when he suddenly fell from a rather steep section in the canyon, Sifoni.
The Fire Brigade and Special Disaster Response Unit (EMAK), including a diver in the adjacent river, immediately launched an operation to locate the child, however it was too late.
