The German Chancellor Angela Merkel and Prime Minister Antonis Samaras gave a common press conference following their Tuesday morning meeting in Berlin.

Mrs. Merkel commented that “Greece is now sending positive message” and argued that there would soon be a positive growth rate in Greece. The German Chancellor added that she supports Greece bilaterally and that she was certain that the necessary steps would be taken in the near future.

Mr. Samaras responded that “the country achieved difficult goals in a shorter period than expected”, while asserting that no further aid package is necessary. The Greek PM further argued how the country achieved a primary surplus in 2013, a year before expected and claimed that it achieved its goals. Mr. Samaras also claimed that the bank recapitalization attracted 10 billion euros in private investments.

Mr. Samaras also promised that Greece would achieve a positive growth rate in the third semester and stressed that even though efforts have been made to reduce the crippling unemployment, the rate still remains rather high. The Greek Prime Minister concluded that “Greece is waiting for the final settlement for debt sustainability”.
