After recently gaining access to the third, dirt-filled chamber in the enigmatic Amphipolis tomb, the Ministry of Culture is preparing to issue a new statement regarding the technical work carried out to ensure structural integrity.
The third chamber appears to have suffered significant structural damage, with the archeological and technical teams on site carefully removing the dirt, before deciding on their next move. As the chamber is rather small (4.5m by 6m) there is not much room for major support columns, as they would then interfere with the archeological efforts.
The general secretary of the Ministry of Culture Lina Mendoni gave an interview to Real FM and was confident that the excavation will reveal “even greater surprises”. When asked about the identity of the person to whom the tomb belongs, Mrs. Mendoni noted that “any speculations are simply speculations”.
