The imperceptible social coordination which we have been referring to recently worked once again on this election Sunday and gave a balanced result.
The wise people performed their miracle once more…
The people put SYRIZA at the top, keeping Mr. Tsipras’s claim for power alive, but also showed him that has a long way to go in order to actually assume power.
The wise people also sent a clear warning to the Prime Minister Antonis Samaras, expressing their discontent for the attitude of the coalition. At the same time though they recognized his efforts and did not doom him with a huge difference that would set him off track.
Additionally the people honored Evangelos Venizelos’ stability and gave him the opportunity to lead the effort to reform the center left. The PASOK leader is teaching a master class in political survival in recent years. He seems like a survival of two world wars and maintains a critical role in governing the country.
From there on The River’s invasion in the political scene is noteworthy, while the result of the neo-Nazi Gold Dawn – which didn’t see its ratings reach double divs, but came out stronger nevertheless – is a matter of discussion.
Also worth mentioning are the endurance of the Communist Party, the collapse of ANEL and the elimination of DIMAR. We also cannot ignore Mr. Karatzaferis’ “return”, as well as the disappearance of the drachma and left parties, that were unable to comprehend just how powerful the people’s desire is to remain within Europe.
We must not neglect to refer to the metapolitics in Piraeus and Volos, which will likely concern us later in the future. The ease with which the municipal candidates won may motivate many and perhaps it may be the birth of an idiosyncratic type of Greek “Berlusconism”.
Finally, the wise people made it clear that they cannot stand any more elections and for the time being will not risk the country’s path, at least until the new public debt settlement.
Above all though, the people proved that they will not sacrifice their summer trips to the beach. We assume that all of the political leaders received the memo and will adopt Andreas Papandreou’s famous saying of “not messing with people’s trip to the beach”.
