The Minister of Economy, Infrastructure, Shipping and Tourism Giorgos Stathakis expressed his confidence of an agreement being reached between Greece and its creditors at the Eurogroup scheduled on Saturday.

In an interview for the Kokkino radio station, Mr. Stathakis noted that the government as not “naïve” when it entered negotiations with its creditors and that it was aware of its “dominant ideology and tough rules”.

When asked as to who will have to make concessions on Saturday, in order to reach an agreement, the Minister explained that based on the progress of negotiations so far, the creditors are the ones who are in the position to take a few steps back.

Mr. Stathakis explained that the government aims to improve public finances by reducing budget cuts and increasing the increasing the share of of large wealth and businesses in the burden. The institutions, he commented, wanted the opposite. He also accused the creditors of an “apparent regression” for disregarding previous talks and preparations.
