The Ministry of Administrative Reform has announced that since 2013 over 500 employees have been dismissed from the public sector due to criminal or disciplinary reasons, such as submitting false documents.
According to the Ministry’s data, in 2013 a total of 220 civil servants were dismissed, while in the first four months of 2014 (January to April) a total of 304 civil servants have been dismissed.
The Ministry reported that these dismissals were carried out after the employees were found guilty of serious criminal or disciplinary violations such as manslaughter, bribery, embezzlement, forgery, blackmail, inappropriate conduct with a minor, participating in a criminal organization, supplying child pornography, sale and possession of illicit narcotics and more.
The Minister of Administrative Reform Kyriakos Mitsotakis explained that inspections within the public sector have intensified in order to root out any employees who may have submitted false documents and vowed to put an end to the era of impunity in the public sector.
