PM Samaras claims that “the country needs a strong leader”

The Prime Minister and New Democracy President Antonis Samaras gave a series of interviews over the weekend, in an effort to sway undecided voters in the upcoming critical general elections on Sunday.

Mr. Samara appeared on SKAI, where he stressed that Greece needs a strong leader, while dismissing SYRIZA’s claim that it has a European perspective. He also argued that a SYRIZA victory will cause the market to freeze and bring back the recession, while asserting that he is in the position to come to agreements with Greece’s creditors.

Regarding the lead that SYRIZA consistently has in opinion polls, Mr. Samaras responded that the lead was so small it could be a statistical error and warned that the main opposition party will jeopardize everything his coalition government has achieved.

In the other interview he gave to ANT1, Mr. Samaras appeared confident that the voters would trust him with carrying out the necessary reforms and stated that SYRIZA intends to turn the Greek people into “guinea pigs”, as it has “weird anti-European obsessions, third-world obsessions”.

The New Democracy leader refused to attend a debate with SYRIZA leader Alexis Tsipras, claiming that the opposition leader is “arrogant” and a “political hooligan”. He also disputed SYRIZA’s ability to form a coalition government, and announced that he intends to carry out a series tax cuts.
