For that past few months taxpayers have been burdened with a slew of obligations, tax payments and others, which are often vague and under question.
At first there were the errors in calculating the ENFIA. Then there was a problem with the exemptions and changing the way it was calculated. Finally, there was more confusion as to the number of installments.
Is the ENFIA included within the greater regulation framework that provides 100 installments for outstanding debts or not?
This question has turned out to be a modern Gordian Knot, dragging politics, the media and society into a major conflict.
Especially in the case of the ENFIA, after the deadlines of the first and second installment expired, it was officially stated that taxpayers paid 1.2 billion euros!
That is much more than was expected. In other words, the taxpayers responded with far greater consequence and willingness than what the tax authorities and our conflicting politicians had estimated.
There are four more installments left and if the current rates of payment are maintained, then it appears that the ENFIA will be paid off before the relevant deadlines expire. But even those who are unable to pay have the opportunity to extend the payments into 24 installments.
So why all the hate and strife over the 100 installments? One could argue that the current political conflict over the number of ENFIA installments is just for show and to galvanize electoral clientele.
Only that way time, smarts and political vitality are being wasted.
Instead of focusing on the critical matters the fathers of our nation are wasting away with a constant torrent of minor reforms and regulations, which in most cases cause more confusion than relief.
