A young
man, Pavlos Fyssas, had to be sacrificed exactly a year ago in order to put an
end to Golden Dawn’s criminal activities. It was a straw that broke the camel’s
back and prompted the state to wake up and begin revealing the neo-Nazis’ true
colors. A year has gone by and a large part of Golden Dawn’s leadership is indicted,
while the assault groups and bullies that terrorized neighborhoods are almost
gone.
Today
nobody can claim to not know what the neo-Nazis get up to. The slew of
revelations in the press following the murder of P. Fyssas and the systematic
investigation of the judicial authorities brought to light a host of evidence
that establishes the criminal activities of party members and supporters. The
upcoming trials, with the trial of the man accused of murdering Pavlos Fyssas
coming first, are going to address the criminal liability of certain
individuals as well as the neo-Nazi group’s leadership, which insists and
carries on pretending to be unaccountable…
By
examining the criminal liability of the neo-Nazis though, we are not ending
their actions and presence. It is the duty of all coordinated political forces
to deconstruct the presence and tolerance of a significant portion of society for
Golden Dawn. By using arguments and evidence, the voters, who continue to be
attracted by the so-called anti-systemic and anti-bailout rhetoric of the
neo-Nazis, must try to understand that they cannot invest politically in those
who subvert democracy; that the justifiable frustration of a portion of the electorate
towards the political system must not resort to bullies and criminals. Because after
all the revelations and evidence, it is a disgrace in the country that likes to
boast about giving birth to democracy for some to insist on tolerating and
supporting a far-right gang and elect their representatives in Parliament and Europe…
