The expectations for a preliminary deal with the troika at yesterday’s Eurogroup were not confirmed, meaning that the uncertainty over the collection of the loan installment and other outstanding issues is being extended. The game between the creditors and the Greek government is turning out to be once again particularly tough and problematic.

The sense cultivated by the Greek side that the early achievement of he primary surplus would make the negotiations easier was not only not confirmed, but if the rumors circulating are trued, then the troika is setting even harsher terms in a series of issues, with significant political and social importance. Instead of reducing the political pressure on the government, it is increasing with unpredictable consequences for its political cohesion as well as its financial and social stability.

In a period when it is appears that the recession is slowing down, this extended uncertainty created by the troika’s demands and political supervisors is threatening to subvert any expectations that may have been raised. Neither the economy, nor society or the political system, during an election campaign, can endure these constant conflicts.

The people tormented by the crisis and stressing about what tomorrow has in store for them, have a right to know why the negotiations are hanging by a thread for the umpteenth time; whether the troika’s demand truly are unreasonable and unrealistic, whether they want to essentially bound our country to a new bailout or whether some Ministers are unable to meet their obligations and perform their duties because they do not want to offend their partisan clientele.

The entanglements, extortions and delays must come to an end so that the Greek people, especially those who have made the greatest sacrifices, can finally see how they will recover their life. They have dearly for the uncertainties, delays and debts. Enough is enough.
