Eurostat to estimate primary surplus in time for Eurogroup in March

According to a senior officer at the Ministry of Finances Eurostat is expected to have determined Greece’s primary surplus ahead of the 23rd of April, with a good chance of it being revealed at the Eurogroup scheduled for the 10th of March.

The estimation, which will be negotiated with the Greek Ministry over the next few days, will also determine how much of the surplus the government will redistribute via benefits and welfare, as previously announced.

While the senior officer avoided making any prediction as to what the extent or nature of these relief measures may be, he insisted that they will be “in the right direction” and “the first testament of injustices suffered being reversed”.

Other government officials highlighted the united government front in the current round of negotiation and that there are no differences of opinion amongst the negotiators.

For today the creditor representatives are scheduled to meet with the Minister of Finances Yannis Stournaras at 4pm and the Minister of Growth Kostis Hatzidakis at 7pm.
