Doctors, nurses and all other employees in the national healthcare system have decided to escalate their protest actions with a 24-hour sector-wide strike on Wednesday the 2nd of December.
Prior to the strike, the nationwide hospital doctor federation OENGE announced that a walk out at 10am on Friday, the 27th of November, followed by a demonstration at the Ministry of Health and meeting with the Minister at 1pm.
The federation demands the creation of a free primary healthcare system which will address the needs of the people relieve hospitals. Additionally the doctors demand the payment of outstanding wages and overtime, restoration of wages, as well as hiring additional doctors and other staff members for the country’s hospitals.
On the 4th of December the Council of State will rule on the OENGE’s appeal to restore wages, with the federation calling a walk out from 11am onwards.
