President Prokopis Pavlopoulos assured that Greece would pay “up to the last cent” and asserted that in some matter, Europe will have to take political decisions and circumvent the technocrats, in an interview for German publication Der Spiegel.
According to the President, certain measures that have been imposed conflict with European legislation and he underlined that Greece wants to remain an equal member of Europe.
Regarding the negotiations with the creditors, he appeared confident that an agreement would be reached and explained that balanced budgets will help towards the gradual reduction of Greek debt.
In the interview he also argued that politicians should take more decisions, circumventing the technocrats, while asserting that this does not conflict with the European Union’s overall long-term goals.
