The critical Brussels Group talks between Athens and its creditors are set to resume on Saturday, in an effort to come to preliminary agreements on the major issues that remain unresolved. Although the talks were expected to begin today, it was decided to postpone the discussions for Saturday, as most of the representatives of the institutions are currently in Washington for the IMF’s Summit.
Sources from the Ministry of Finance noted that the talks in the Belgian capital will continue until the 23rd of April, the eve of the upcoming Eurogroup that will take place in Latvia. The sources also told the Athens-Macedonia News Agency that the Greek side will present comprehensive and costed proposals.
Special care will be show on tax-related issues, with further details and explanations provided. The government sources have rejected the possibility of recessionary measures, such wage and pension cuts, as they will not contribute towards the recovery of the economy.
Greece will be represented at the Brussels Groups talks by SOE president Giorgos Houliarakis, the General Secretary of Fiscal Police Nikos Theoharakis and the Finance Minister’s adviser Elena Panariti. On the other side of the table will be the IMF’s Rishi Goyal, the European Commission’s Declan Costello and the ECB’s Rasmus Rüffer.
