Tragedy struck in Ermioni early on Tuesday morning, when a fishing boat ran around off Cape Mouzaki, which resulted in the death of three crew members (one Greek and two foreign nationals) and the injury of two more.
Shortly after running aground, the fishing boat sank. As soon as the local port authorities were informed of the fishing boat running aground, three other fishing boats and three nearby water taxis, along with Coast Guard vessel and a Navy helicopter headed out for assistance.
Upon arrival the Coast Guards spotted on Greek and one foreign national crew member having swum out to the shore, suffering from symptoms of hypothermia. The authorities located the body of another crew member, while a diver later located the bodies of two other crew members inside the sunken vessel’s cabin.
The cause of the tragic incident has not yet been determined.
