The rumors that have recently been circulating and which suggest the possibility of Greece needing another aid package, therefore another bailout, demonstrate that the path to exit the crisis is neither clear, nor straight forward. Despite the demonstrable significant improvement of the country’s financial status being proven by the relevant community bodies, despite achieving surpluses sooner than expected, the Europeans continue to be suspicious…
Greece, unfortunately for the people who continue to suffer, has to deal with her problems on the one hand – and primarily the issue of political uncertainty – and on the other the country has to deal with the contradictions and uncertainty of Europe itself. The schism of the European elite, amongst those who consider the relaxation of monetary and fiscal policy to be necessary and those who insist on strict fiscal discipline and structural changes, has a decisive effect on the developments in our country.
In order to finally see light at the end of the tunnel, we are forced to tread through this remote path, taking careful steps and constantly assessing dangers. It is a difficult balance, why as it appears, is not only dependant on our own pursuits and goals. That is why every now and again we can see rumors circulating; that is why we constantly have to provide explanations and clarifications for even the most obvious measures and decisions.
Greece is changing, adapting to the new reality, but at the same time it has to deal with European ambivalence. One moment it was wants to invest in the country’s progressive path, the next it has to decide where it wants to go itself. Unfortunately, for a country as small as ours, the contradictions, inconsistencies and controversial pursuits of our European partners make our exit fro the crisis mach harder and dependent.
