The second feature-length film of director Syllas Tzoumerkas “A Blast” will be shown at the BFI London Film Festival, which takes place between the 8th and 19th of October.
The film, which is set against the backdrop of the financial crisis, focuses on mother-of-two Maria (Angeliki Papoulia) and the return of her husband Yannis (Vasilis Doganis), who is a captain on-board a cargo ship. BFI’s reviewer Edward Lawrenson notes that “this is bold, urgent filmmaking, boasting exuberant performances” and the “sharply stylized evocation of personal and national turbulence”.
British cinemagoers will have an opportunity to watch the film on the 17th of October at BFI Southbank (NFT2) and on the 19th of October at the Vue Cinema in Islington (Screen 1). In Greece the film will be shown between the 17th and 28th of September as part of the “Premiere Nights” festival.
