Every change to the government creates expectations but also raises questions about the skills of those who were selected. It is obvious that the government that was sworn in yesterday is trying to combine the result of the recent elections and the need to carry on with the observed politics. It is a combination that is not that easy to serve since the difficulties and contradiction are glaring.

In their interventions, the Prime Minister and the Government Vice President emphasized the need for the cabinet members to be consistent and determined. After painstaking efforts and great sacrifices the country has managed to view the future with greater optimism. It is obvious that these efforts must be jeopardized, they cannot go to waste. The legitimate aspirations of the government majority to reconnect with a significant portion of their lost electoral bases cannot and must not cast doubts over the efforts to overcome the crisis.

Both Mr. Samaras and Mr. Venizelos were clear regarding the need to carry on with the reform that are needed to implement the reforms and decisions that have been planned. Incitements though are not enough. It is absolutely necessary that the ministers who undertook the truly difficult task of implementing this policy to show the same assertiveness, the same determination in practice as the one they showed in their televised interventions.

There is no room for waste time, endless consultations, pointless conflicts and winking at their electoral clientele. This is not the time for showing off ministerial appointments. It is time for work and work alone, as the Prime Minister said, sensing that his one and only duty is to rid the country once and for all from all of the suffering of crisis.
