According to the latest statistical data published by the European statistics authority Eurostat, the rate of unemployment for April in the Eurozone marginally dropped from 11.8% to 11.7%. Within the European Union, the rate dropped from 10.5% to 10.4% in March. Overall there were 76,000 less unemployed in the Eurozone, totaling 18.751 million.
As expected, the highest rates of unemployment were documented in Greece (26.5% in February) and Spain (25.1%), while the lowest rates were found in Austria (4.9%), Germany (5.2%) and Luxembourg (6.1%). The highest increase of unemployment within a year was documented in Cyprus (15.6% to 16.4%) and the Netherlands (6.5% to 7.2%).
Regarding the youth unemployment in Greece, which has the highest rate in Europe, Eurostat documented an increase from 56.7% in January to 56.9% in February. The highest rates after Greece were documented in Spain (53.5%) and Croatia (49%), while the lowest were found in Germany (7.9%), Austria (9.5%) and The Netherlands (11%).
