Have any of those in charge of the political party staffs forgotten about the 26th of May? Anyone watching the television ads for the upcoming vote on Sunday may be under the impression that the country is on the verge of collapse. The scaremongering and a deeply divisive political discourse is become increasingly dominant in the election campaigns.

It is high time that some of them understand that the television scaremongering will not only fail to convince any undecided or swaying voters, but on the contrary, it makes politics and participating in the election process even more repulsive.

If the parties truly want to the greatest number of people to vote for them, they must limit the screaming and divisive slogans.

Greek society has suffered enough from the long-term recession; it is disappointed by and angry at the political systems and politicians. Perhaps they will finally understand that this extreme populism and demagogy only serves to fuel extremism and the subversion of democracy.

The vote on Sunday is for Europe, not clear up any political and partisan business. Irrespective of the results, the country must maintain political stability and keep up the effort to escape the crisis. That is supposed to be everyone’s common goal. Let us not undermine it by fostering divisions and polarization.
